Sur Face Rust: Stainless, Iron, Monel: Scouring pads and powder can remove sur face rustface rust. Use products such as Rust Eater® or Naval Jelly for extensive rust. Polish with wire brush. Rinse down.A good coat of colorless nail polish on a regular wire hanger will keep it from rusting. This type of rust-free hanger takes up much less room than plastic or wooden ones. Bear in mind that the metal hanging hook of a plastic or wooden hanger can also leave a rust mark on a garment, and should also be coated with nail polish. Coat hooks, if not plastic or plastic-covered, can be given the same rust-proofing treatment.
Once the metal has been properly prepared, you can apply paints suitable for wood, fiberglass, or aluminum sur face rustfaces, as well as those with special rust inhibitors.
