Pseudo-candid Shot:

Pseudo-candid Shot Standard portrait equipment, provided you have room enough in the studio and sufficient Lighting facilities to cover i-full-figure poses, will do the job required for theatrical portraiture. Standard portrait procedvires, however, will not. Shooting a good portrait of the entertainer is just one-fourth of the job. Beyond that you must shoot a bathing suit shot which is a good example of pinup technique, the casual pseudo-candid which should pass muster as a fashion shot, and finally the most difficult of all, the picture which ideally captures a talent on film.

Subject matter, as you can see for yourself by studying the magazine stands, runs heavily to beautiful girls, charming babies, children and pets. Study the magazines (the importance of such study cannot be overemphasized) and you'll see that most of the covers conform to a pattern or formula, and you'll be wise to make your pictures conform to this. The magazines want originality, and will pay well for new ideas, but the originality must not be so great as to violate the formula. First thing you'll notice in your study is that the ideas are| really very simple, after all. This is not because the photogpinup picture or portrait of a really beautiful girl; a good portrait of a charming baby; a good pseudo-candid shot of a child with a pet; a good action shot, are all good cover material.

One popular form of professional picture is the composite in which several, usually four, negatives are printed on one sheet of 8 x 10 glossy paper. The four pictures for this set should include, in the case of an actor or actress, one portrait close-up showing the subject's face as flatteringly as possible, one bathing suit shot which leaves no mystery as regards the subject's physical qualifications (if they aren't too bad), one pseudo-candid or fashion-type picture showing the actor's ability to wear clothes, and one character picture in , which the subject is demonstrating his talent. For the vaude-villian or specialty entertainer, the composite should show the highlights of his act, and perhaps a portrait.
