Picture -story: The script is almost indispensable to picture -story-story creation, as all editors and photographers have learned long since. The script is almost as important to a still photographer doing a picture -story story as it is to a movie director shooting a feature picture -story. Here are some of the advantages of shooting to a script:
1. The story is given a plot, a plan, a cohesion, an organization. This can make the difference between selling it for a good price and not selling it at all.
2. The photographer will not omit any of the picture -storys illustrating important points in the story. He will use the • script as a check list, and leave his mind free to concentrate on one picture -story at a time.
Any picture -story story which reminds you of something in your own experience should give you the inspiration to repeat that same story, shooting its parallel which exists in your own world. If your experience is so limited that published picture -story stories do not suggest parallels to you, there is something you can do about that, too.

The photographer is superseding the reporter in importance in the feature field. Thus, since the idea is to tell the story in picture -storys, it's a rare case when one picture -story will do the job. There are cases, of course, when one picture -story tells the entire story and you can sell such picture -storys. However, three picture -storys will bring you three times as much payment and will sell nine times as readily. |
