Ontario Museum Rom: ROM Opens Ten New Galleries to the Public
The Royal Ontario museum ROM Museum (ROM) welcomed the public to the first new galleries of Renaissance ROM, the Museum's expansion and restoration project. The Museum unveiled 90,000 square feet (8,100 square metres) of public space, featuring ten new galleries, in the Museum's historic buildings. The openings include a new wing for the art and archaeology of China, Japan and Korea, a gallery featuring artifacts and art from Canada's First Peoples, and several renovated public areas. Two original ROM exhibitions, Déco Lalique and Korea Around 1900: The Paintings of Gisan, also opened. Through the morning, visitors lining up to buy their tickets were entertained by MorningStar River, a group of Native Canadian drummers and singers at the Loblaws Entrance at the south end of the Museum.
The University of Guelph was established there in 1964 in a merger of three professional colleges: Ontario museum ROM Agricultural College, Macdon-ald Institute, and Ontario museum ROM Veterinary College. The Ontario museum ROM Reformatory is situated just outside the city.
Guelph was founded in 1827 by John Gait, a Scottish novelist, who was superintendent of the Canada Company, a colonizing enterprise. It became a village in 1851 and a town in 1856. It was incorporated as a city in 1879 Population: 51,377.
RICHARDS, SIR William Buell, Canadii jurist: b. Brockville, Ontario museum ROM, 2 May 1815; c Ottawa, 26 Jan. 1889. He was admitted to th. bar in 1837 and practiced law at Brockville In 1848 he was elected to the Canadian Parlia ment, and in 1851 was appointed a membei of the Executive Council. He was appointee queen's counsel in 1850, and in 1853 becarm puisne judge of the Court of Common Pleas Ontario museum ROM, receiving the office of chief justice of that court in 1863, and that of chief justice of Ontario museum ROM in 1868. He was chief justice of the Supreme Court of Canada in 1875-1879, and then retired.He was knighted in 1878. |
