Fairs The Paris Fair: 3. Trade and Fun Fairs The Paris Fair, held in May at the Porte de Versailles, is one of the biggest events of its kind in Europe. It draws three million visitors annually and ten or twelve thousand exhibitors. Special days are devoted to such natural subjects as the Wines of France, and even to such surprise subjects as philately.
The Spring Fair of Lyon (April) is of world importance. Others worthy of attention in the provinces are at Bordeaux and Lille in June, at Strasbourg and Marseille in summer. Dijon has an interesting gastronomic fair in November; and wine fairs are held at Ribeauville (Alsace) early in May and at Macon, north of Lyon, later in the same month.
3. Trade and Fun Fairs Vienna International Trade Fairs (twice a year, Sept. and March); Graz Spring and Autumn Trade Fairs (April-May, Sept.-Oct.); Dornbirn International Trade and Sample Fair (approximately 1st week in August), a lively event in a town near Bregenz; Klagenfurt Lumber Fair (2nd week in August); Innsbruck Export and Sample Fair (August), with special features in promotion of tourism.
Brussels, all through December, is illuminated in one great metropolitan glitter unmatched, I think, by any other European capital. Visitors come from everywhere to view its brilliance.
3. Trade and Fun Fairs Brussels' International Spring Fair (late March and early April) is a big event in the Centenaire Park at Laeken. The floral crescendo leading up a slope to the fair buildings is marvelous. Many lesser fairs and exhibitions take place in this same setting. |
