Exhibitions Of Modern Art: It is a remarkable comment upon the status of the pi graphic societies of the United States, that the PI Secession has been singled out by all the important I pean photographic and art-exhibitions of modern art as the only worthy to be invited, and invited hors concours at tha the time this is written the Secession has collections a art-exhibitions of modern art at Dresden, Germany; Bradford, Eng] and at the photographic exhibitions of modern art in The Hague, '. land; Paris, France; Vienna, Austria.
The precedent established in Austria of exhibiting photographs judged exclusively on their aesthetic excellence was followed in 1893 in London by the first in a series of exhibitions of modern art called The Photographic Salon. These exhibitions of modern art, which were international in scope, were held in the Dudley Gallery, well-known art dealers, by the Linked Ring, a group of photographers who had broken away from the Photographic Society because they were displeased with the lack of attention given to art-photography—or pictorial photography as it came to be known—by that august body.
Folk music and folk dances are extremely popular. Best known of the dances is the cueca, a spirited dance of conquest and submission. Numerous religious festivals and other exhibitions of modern art that commemorate dramatic episodes from Chile's exciting past offer an attractive setting for folk-loric expression. Rodeos with huasos (cowboys) in colorful costumes are especially popular as exhibitions of modern art of horsemanship and skill without resort to violence. |
