Composition And History:

Composition And History Although scientists can gain much information about the composition and history of the earth from laboratory and seismic methods, they are particularly interested in examining real samples of its internal material. Geologists have recently gained a view of thousands of years of polar history in a National Science Foundation (NSF) project in which drillings are being made through one and a half miles (2.4 km) of the Antarctic ice cap to the rock beneath.

The distinctive features of a planet are its composition, structure, and history. A good deal is known about these first two characteristics of the earth, but its early history and development are largely lost because water and wind have eroded ancient surface structures, while earthquake and volcanic activity have steadily reshaped its surface. But other planets, and their orbiting moons, may have preserved their original features, thus affording an opportunity to gain insights into planetary evolution.

Composition of Industrial Production. The greatest structural changes in British industry occurred after World War II, with the result that its composition now closely resembles that of other advanced nations.
