Chapters Of History:

Chapters Of History About 1765 there appeared in Peking bookstores the Story of a Stone (Shih T'ou Chi), an unfinished work in 80 chapters. The genius evident in this anonymous book at once attracted the attention of the best writers of the age. Soon 40 additional chapters were "found and edited" by a certain Kao E. The 120 chapters were published in 1792 as The Dream of the Red Chamber (Hung-lou meng). Its author was identified as Ts'ao Chan, or Ts'ao Hsueh-ch'in, (1719P-1763). The story of the rise and decline of a great Chinese family, its superb characterizations, thrilling jpisodes, and panoramic representations of intricate human relationships and everyday experi-snces place it among the world's greatest novels.

Blatant and more blatant dance bands and canned jive saturate the helpless air with rich cacophonies and before almost every door stands a girl, or several girls, stridently inviting passers-by to come in. Valletta's Gut is life at its rawest in a sailor's town, but the objective viewer will consider it merely a foil to the brilliance of Malta's name in many chapters of history.

Luke's omission of the Great Commandment is evidently due to his desire to avoiding repeating material already recorded (Luke 10:25ff). This similarity in the order of the pericopes can hardly be the result of authentic historical memory. This is clear from the way in which the miracles collected by Matthew in chapters 8 and 9 are in Mark dispersed in chapters 1 to 2 and 4 to 5. Clearly, motives other than historical or chronological have determined the arrangement of the pericopes as well as the general outline.
