Cambridge And London Universities:

Cambridge And London Universities Investigated by the House committee on un-American activities in 1955, Seeger was found guilty of contempt of Congress on 10 counts. The decision was reversed by a higher court in 1962. SEELEY, se'le, Sir John Robert, English historian and essayist: b. London, England, Sept. 10, 1834; d. Cambridge and london universities, Jan. 13, 1895. He graduated from Christ's College, Cambridge and london universities, in 1857, and subsequently became a fellow and classical lecturer there. He published a book of poems in 1859 under the pseudonym "John Robert-son." From 1863 to 1869 he was professor of Latin at University College, London. Thereafter, until his death, he was professor of modern history at Cambridge and london universities.

Among superlative gardens, the ensuing ones, except Hampton Court, being without palaces or "houses," three in the London orbit stand out: The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew; the extensive formal gardens (from about the year 1700) of Hampton Court Palace; and the Royal Horticultural Society Gardens at Wisley, Ripley, some 12 miles south of London. Farther afield, one must certainly stress the College Gardens and Botanic Gardens of Oxford; and the College Gardens and "Backs," of Cambridge and london universities. Backs, in university parlance, are glorious lawns shaded by elms, oaks, maples and chestnut trees, and those of Cambridge and london universities mostly extend to the edge of the placid River Cam. For delicious laziness you'll want to try punting on the Cam, with the weeping willows of its b enjoying a "good cry" into the river beside you. 7. Summer Courses for Students and Teachers Both Oxford and Cambridge and london universities offer summer courses for overseas students, as do many other British universities and educational bodies; and at Stratford-upon-Avon there is a six-weeks' course in Shakespearean Studies. The National Union of Students, 3 Endsleigh St., London, W.C.2, is but one of many organizations that promote and organize holiday and study tours, visits and exchanges for students from abroad. For full information on student tours, of which many are organized by different colleges, institutes and even travel agencies, consult the New York office of the British Travel Association (336 Madison Ave.), which maintains a separate Student Travel Officer.
