Been The History Of Atomic: And as more fundamental knowledge emerges from basic atomic research, more practical benefits—as yet unimagined and unforeseen—will inevitably emerge too. This has been the history of atomic science since radioactivity was first discovered more than 70 years ago, and it will continue as long as men remain insatiably curious about the forces that govern the universe of matter around them.

HIROSHIMA, he-rosh'ma, the first city destroye( by an atomic bomb, has been reconstructed a one of the most modern cities in Japan. Hi roshima lies on a delta at the head of Hiroshim; Bay, an arm of the Inland Sea. For example, aluminum as found in nature has within the nucleus 13 protons and 14 neutrons (atomic weight 27) and 13 electrons outside of the nucleus. Any neutral atom containing 13 electrons is aluminum, but not all have atomic weight 27. Another form has atomic weight 28, so therefore with its 13 protons it must have 15 neutrons. Different nuclear forms of the same element are termed isotopes (q.v.). |
