Anthropology And History: Beginning in 1907 he held posts successively at the universities of California and Pennsylvania, as chief of the division of anthropology in the Geological Survey of Canada (1910-1925), and at the University of Chicago. From 1931 to 1939 he was Sterling professor of anthropology and linguistics at Yale University, where he chaired the newly founded Department of Anthropology. There, as at Chicago, he attracted students from a broad spectrum of related fields: anthropology, linguistics, sociology, psychology, and psychiatry.Of the possible places suggested by the INAH (National Institute of Anthropology and History), the choice of Tulum, on the Quintana Roo coast, responds to a variety of factors: from its spectacular landscape positioning and the site's historical-archite ctural relevance, to its renown around the world.

Cultural anthropology is a broad category that sometimes includes anthropological linguistics (the study of language in non-Western cultural settings) and prehistoric archeology (the study of the human past before written records). Physical anthropology is the specialised study of the evolutionary biology of our species. A central task in physical anthropology has been to document the sequence whereby the human line (the hominids) evolved from early primate ancestors. Since the 1930s anthropology has been considered directly related to the social sciences. Anthropologists analyse and compare societies and their ways of life in search of theoretical generalisations and patterns. |
